Hotel HistoryThe Thelbridge Cross Inn has been the hub of the community within the parish of Thelbridge for over 200 years. The owners, Bill & Ria Ball have researched local history, particularly that of the inn itself and the past pub landlords and their families. They have produced a historical portfolio which contains an abundance of old photographs, census records, newspaper clippings, anecdotes and stories which have been told by local residents and relatives of people who used to live there.
The walls of the inn are adorned with photographs and memorabilia which tell of the past, and also an extensive bank note collection which evolved when Bill framed an old ten shilling note and put it on the wall in the lounge bar. Over the years customers have enthusiastically donated many interesting and unusual notes to add to the collection, until they became so abundant that Bill had to stop accepting any more because there was no space left on the walls!
HospitalityThe Thelbridge Cross Inn has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and first-time visitors are delighted to discover the genuine hospitality extended to them by all of the family and staff. The service is professional without being overly formal, and the close-knit family atmosphere means they can tailor their service to guests' individual needs and requirements, and will strive to cater for any special requests visitors may have.
Hotel BedroomsThe inn has seven en-suite double bedrooms, which were built in 1989 in a conversion of an old hay-barn. All of the rooms are extremely clean and comfortable, with modern décor and furnishings. Guests will find excellent facilities including colour television, direct-dial telephone, tea & coffee making facilities and full central heating. A tourist board inspector described the bedrooms as "quite compact but good use has been made of the space available… very well decorated… the colour schemes are strong and create a contemporary feel to the rooms".
Conferences and BanquetingIn June of 2004 we opened a new extension, a luxury 120-seater function suite. Named “Dukes”, it is custom-built to be the perfect venue for wedding receptions, conferences, and private functions, incorporating full sound-proofing, a private bar and climate-control air conditioning. The décor and furnishings are modern and luxurious, and the colour scheme is designed to integrate with themes or colours for particular events such as weddings. Coloured table linen can be hired to suit any occasion. Menus and functions will be individually tailor-made to guests’ specific requirements. We have a wide range of suggestions for menus at various prices available upon request. |
